Research:
The Big6
The Big6 is a system of six steps that you can use to help solve problems. We will use it specifically for our research project. The Big6 will help you prepare yourself for research before you open a book or browse a website. It will also assist you in joining the information you find with your own thoughts so that you will be able to report on your topic in a meaningful way.
What Is It?
What Is in This Presentation?
This document will walk you through the steps in the Big6. Along the way, you will find a short video illustration of the Big6 in action, and even a cartoon that's here just for fun. Much that is presented is condensed from the information found at www.big6.com/kids/ and is used with permission of the authors. If you would like to see the full information or learn more about the Big6, simply click on the button at the bottom of this and every following page.
What Is Our Assignment?
You will research one of many topics that we will discuss in class. As a group, you and your classmates will suggest topics that represent problems that exist in your school community or in a larger segment of society. Your goal is to gather information that will allow you to explain the problem and support a possible solution. We have a few class periods of discussion ahead of us to fully explore the topics, the approach, and the requirements for the end product.
